Hello Reception.
I’m really missing you, but I hope you are all home staying safe and keeping busy doing jobs!
I’ve not been very well so I haven’t managed to put another story on my youtube channel, but as soon as I’m better I’ll share some more stories with you and hopefully some more things.

Here are some things you can do to keep you busy.
Maths
Monday
Count your toys.
How many dinosaurs or dolls do you have? Line them up and count each one once. When you’ve done that count in 2s, 5s and 10s – listen to our song on youtube to remind you. Click on the link below.
Tuesday.
Next, can you remember adding? Split your toys into two groups and add them together. Can you remember the kung fu adding sign? Say your add out loud. Here’s an example: “2 + 3 = 5.” Try it with different groups of toys. What other things can you add? If you want to you can write it down.
Wednesday
Now you’ve finished adding how about taking away? Get your toys out again. Start with a bigger number and say how many toys you are taking away. Say it out loud and if you can write it down. Try doing it for different toys or things around your house.
Thursday
Do you know how to order your numbers? Start doing 1 2 3 4 5. If you can do that try 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10. Then how about 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 18 19 20
And lastly how about 21 22 23 24 25 26 27 28 29 30.
If you can put them in the correct order ask your grown up to miss some numbers out and see if you can fill in the missing numbers. Try these below. If you get stuck look at my numbers to help you.

Friday
Try counting aloud today. Start and 0 and see if you can count to 30. Then count backwards. Use your rewind arms, remember when we count backwards we start at a bigger number and count back to a smaller number. Lastly, as your challenge today see if you can can count in 2’s, 5’s and 10’s. Can you do it without the song?
Literacy.
Try and refresh your sounds daily by listening to the little girl in the youtube video below for set 1 and set 2 sounds. This will only take a couple of minutes daily and will help your child remember their sounds.

Pause the video at various times to get chn to blend the words on the screen. You can also get them to write the sounds. In school we would only do 1 sound per day, please do not do any more than this with your chn. They can practice the sounds, but only concentrate on one sound for writing per day.
Reading.
Get the chn to read the sentence. Red words cannot be blended, children just have to know them (we have not used capital letters as in our red books, they do not use capital letters either.)
Monday
the dog is on the mat.
Tuesday
the cat is on the shed.
Wednesday
the rat can wink.
Thursday
the ring is big.
Friday
its not on my chin.
Writing
Monday Get chn to write their name. If they can write their first name, write their surname too.
Tuesday
Play ‘I spy’ and ask the chn to write down 5 things they can see in the house or garden.
Wednesday
Write a shopping list of food items you might need from your next shopping trip.
Start by writing ‘I will need’. If chn can get them to write that part themselves too.
Thursday
Get chn to write a very simple diary of five things they have done that day. Some will be able to do this by themselves, others will need a lot of help. An example of this would be.
E.g. I got up. I went to play. I did my name. I had breakfast. I went to bed.
Chn can add as much or as little detail as they want. Do not worry about spelling, just try to make sure children use their Fred fingers to help them spell.
Friday
Practice spelling and writing any of the words from the 100 high frequency reception and year 1 words.
Expressive arts and design.
Draw a rainbow for your window. When people are passing it will make them smile.
Make a monster from an old cereal box or old junk.
Understanding the world.
Record the weather, you can use the chart below. Talk to your family about the weather. Is it the same as yesterday? What do you think the weather will be like tomorrow? They can draw a picture like our weather chart at school.

Go for a minibeast hunt in the back garden. Do you recognise any of the minibeasts from our story? What do they look like? Talk to your family about how many legs they have. Do they have wings? Do they look like their parents?
PD
Do your PE every morning with Joe wicks. He puts a new video every morning at 9am. I’ll be doing it too at my house.
And lastly, talk to your children, have fun with them, we hop we will be back to school soon. We are missing you so much and can’t wait to see you.
