Year 1

Week Commencing – 29th June 2020 (New!)

Hi Year 1.  We have been busy in school in the last 2 weeks and now are going to share with you what we will be doing this week.
On Monday we are going to be practicing our reading and phonics and then looking at telling the time.  Have a look at the powerpoint and see what times you can recognise.  In the afternoon we are going to be looking at some information about dinosaurs from The Natural History Museum.
Click on the link and then have a go at any of the activities you like.https://www.nhm.ac.uk/take-part/dippy-on-tour/dinosaurs-and-birds-learning-resources.html  We are going to make dinosaur feet!
Tuesday will be more reading and phonics and then we will be making our own clock with hands. The afternoon is for you to choose what you would like to do.
Wednesday is reading and phonics again, then we will be looking at positional language, how we describe where things are.  Look at the worm powerpoint and then try and do the completing sentences sheet.  In the afternoon we are going to be making fruit kebabs, so ask your parents if you can get different fruits that you maybe haven’t tried before and put them together to make a kebab on a long wooden stick.
Thursday will be reading and phonics for the last time and then more position work.  There is a game where you have to put the objects in the right place on the tree, and you will need someone to read for you.  The afternoon will be a crafty art session so see what you can make.
Hope you are all staying well and we miss you lots.
Mrs Lambert, Mrs Bourne and some of Year 1!

Week Commencing – 22nd June 2020

Hi Year 1.

We have been busy working back in class and thought we would share a few of the things we have done so you can have a go at home too.  We have painted rainbows, why not use pens or crayons or different coloured paper or objects to make your own rainbow.

We have been looking at measuring length, ordering things from longest to shortest and this week using objects to measure.

Last week we drew pictures of flowers we found outside, looking carefully at what they look like and labelling parts like roots, leaves, stem and petals.  See if there are any plants or flowers you can draw carefully.

This week we are going to be using bubbles and trying to make our own different shaped bubble blowers to see what shape the bubbles are.  Have a go and see what you find out.

We all hope you are well and staying healthy and safe with your families.

Mrs Lambert and Mrs Bourne.

Week Commencing – 8th June 2020

Hi Year 1, I hope you are all still safe and being good.  I am looking forward to seeing some of you back at school next week, and if you aren’t coming back don’t worry.  You will be able to use BBC bitesize or Oak Academy learning for activities you can still do at home while we do work in school.  Here are a few activities you can have a look at as well.
Count how many of each object you can see on the I-Spy sheet and then do the addition questions that are on the checklist page.
Can you find all the seaside words in the wordsearch?  How about writing some sentences using some of those words.
If you looked at the powerpoints last week then have a go at the comparing the seaside sheet.  Don’t worry if you can’t print it out, talk to someone at home about the things you can see and if they are old, new or both.
Watch some Magic Grandad videos about the seaside in the past.  Do they show any of the things you might have seen in the other resources?
Stay safe, stay good and take care of yourselves and your families.
Mrs Lambert and Mrs Bourne.

Week Commencing – 1st June 2020

Hello, Year 1.  I hope you are all still well and having good times with your families.  Here are a few activities for you to have a go at on the topic of the seaside.

Have a look at the powerpoints about the seaside in the past and see how it was different to the seaside today.  Have you been to the seaside?  Do you recognise any of the things in the pictures?

The maths workbook has lots of things for you to try.  Some of them are things we haven’t done before so don’t worry if you aren’t sure how to do them.  The activity where you need to recognise which number is bigger or smaller might be one, so instead of using the < and >, it says, just circle the number.

There is a reading activity with questions to answer about the beach, ask someone to help you read it if you find it hard but have a go yourself.  The answers are in the text so look carefully and think hard.

Have a go at these and next week there will be some more things to try.

Take care and hope to see some of you soon.  Mrs Lambert and Mrs Bourne

W/C 18th May 2020

Hello Year 1, I hope you are all still well.  We are coming up to what would be half term so here are a few things for you to do in the next few weeks.

Have a look at the exception words for Year 1.  These are words that you should be able to read and spell in lots of your work.  Some of them you might be able to use your phonics to help you but others you just have to learn the whole word, they are red words and remember, you can’t Fred a red!  There is also a spring activity pack which has lots of reading and writing activities for you to have a go at.

We would have been looking at measures in Maths so I have included some activities about capacity, which means how much something can hold, length and height, and ordering activities during the day.  If you don’t have a printer at home don’t worry, you can still do the activities by just reading them and having a go.  Ask a parent or older brother or sister to help you and have fun with them.

Our topic for after half term should be the seaside so why not have a look at a map and see if you can find any seaside places in England.  Have you been to the beach anywhere?  Was it in England or another country?  What was the weather like?  How did you get there?  What could you see, was there hills and mountains, snow, sand, or lots of big buildings?  If you want to draw or write about somewhere you have been that would be really good to see.

Most of all, keep being good, keep trying to do some of these activities and keep safe.  We miss you and will see you when we can.

Mrs Lambert and Mrs Bourne.
 W/C 4th May 2020 (New!)

Hi Year 1, we hope you are all still being good and trying to do some school work with your families.  Remember, if you get a call from school please say hello to us, we love hearing your voices and having a chance to talk to you, even if it is only for a few minutes.

I have got a few ideas for things you could try doing at home over the next few weeks.  They are all to do with our topic of what we eat.  Have a go at some of them and show us in the comments section what you have been up to.

I would like you to spend some time thinking about where our food comes from.  Have a look at the PowerPoint if you can, if not just look at the packaging on the food you have at home.  Use a map and find out where the food comes from, can you remember the 7 continents?  Make a list or draw a picture showing where the different food in your house comes from.  There is a sheet you could print off or use to help you record your work in your own way.

The 5 a day hunt is a fun activity.  Ask a grown-up or older brother or sister to hide the pictures of fruit around your house and garden.  You have the treasure hunt sheet and look for all the pictures, marking them off and writing where you found them.

Watch the video about making bread.  Do any of your families make bread?  Does it look like that or is it different?  Take a picture of bread that gets made in your house and keep it to show me when we get back to school.

Try the fruit maths sheets.  Remember when you are finding half you split the amount into 2 equal groups, and a quarter is 1 of 4 equal groups.  Have a go, if you need help you can always ask in the comments section or when a teacher calls your home.

Keep trying to read and write a little bit each day and remember to be kind to everyone in your house.  We all miss you so much and will be very happy when we are able to see you again.  Until then, stay safe and be good.

Mrs Lambert and Mrs Bourne.

Hello Year 1!
Mrs Lambert and Mrs Bourne here.  We hope you are all well and being good for your mums and dads.  We know this is strange time but we want you to enjoy spending time with your families, even if you can’t be with them all.

To keep you busy, why don’t you have a go at making a junk model dinosaur, like we talked about in class.  Use any bits of junk you can find, things like empty cardboard boxes, empty bottles, toilet or kitchen roll tubes, anything you can find.  If you don’t have any of those things then try drawing a picture of a dinosaur.  Maybe you could research a dinosaur we didn’t learn about in school and put some of the information onto a poster or write it down.  Could you write a little dinosaur story, or draw a cartoon of a dinosaur?

We are missing you all and will keep sending messages to you while we can’t be in school.  Be good and stay safe.

Hi Year 1,
Why not have a go at this quiz and see how much you know about dinosaurs.  Leave a comment to let me know how you got on.

Stay safe, Mrs Lambert.
